Maximum LTV Is a Lender Policy, Not a Market Index

Loan-to-value is the loan divided by appraised value. How the appraisal is ordered is on appraisals. The definition and why it matters is on LTV and appraisals. This page is what pushes a lender’s maximum up or down. It does not report a 2026 index, because this site does not have one.

What tightens the advance

  • Age, high engine time, damage, or missing logs.
  • A type with few recent sales. See liquidity.
  • Use that is rental, training, or charter rather than personal.
  • A borrower with thin reserves or recent credit problems.

What does not

A higher asking price does not raise the appraisal. A lower interest rate does not raise the maximum LTV. Those are different knobs. If values in the market fall after you close, your LTV worsens even though you have paid on time. That is the upside-down case. The defense is a real down payment and a term that pays principal down faster than the airplane is likely to depreciate. Model the loan in the calculator at the appraised value, not at the ad.

Questions buyers actually ask

Is 80% or 85% standard?

It is a phrase people repeat. Your offer is whatever that lender will advance on that serial number. Get it in the commitment letter.

Does extra principal improve LTV later?

Yes. The balance falls. Value is whatever the market says. Paying principal is the part you control.
