A Light Jet Is Financed Around the Engines and the Pilots
The purchase price is the smallest part of the underwriting conversation on a light jet. Budget lines are on jet ownership costs. How the loan differs from a piston is below. This is not a forecast of 2026 coupons. Those sit on the rate page.
What the lender asks
- Is the engine on a program, and does the program transfer at closing? “We will enroll later” is a weaker file.
- Who is typed or current, and is single-pilot authorization real for this serial number and this insurer, or only for the type certificate in the abstract?
- What is the hull quote at the value the lender needs? Jet hull premiums dwarf piston premiums. Bind the quote before you negotiate as if you already own it.
- Where will it be maintained? A program and a shop that can actually see the airplane are part of residual value.
Model the debt in the calculator only after the program, training seats, hangar, and insurance are written beside it. If charter revenue is required to cover them, you are applying for a commercial credit. Say so at the start. The product overview for CJ, Phenom, and Eclipse airframes is financing light jets.
Questions buyers actually ask
Is an Eclipse underwritten like a CJ?
No. Support, fleet size, and insurance appetite differ by type. Do not send one model’s term sheet as if it were the other’s.
Can I finance the engine program enrollment?
If it is due at closing and the lender agrees to add it to principal. A future enrollment is an operating bill.
