Cirrus CAPS: Manuals, Training and Buyer Due Diligence

CAPS is a system to understand through the applicable Cirrus manual, qualified training and documented maintenance status. A buyer's guide should identify those sources and questions; it should not replace emergency procedures with a universal deployment rule or imply a guarantee of safety. Cirrus: SR Series technical publications suite provides the supporting reference or documentation route for this review.

Review the system through the actual aircraft

  1. Which aircraft serial number, CAPS installation, components and manual or supplement revisions establish the system fitted to the candidate?
  2. What training will the intended pilot and passengers receive using the appropriate manufacturer materials and instructor, including the roles and limitations of the installed systems?
  3. What maintenance and component-status records does a Cirrus-capable provider verify, and what upcoming work or missing documentation must be resolved before delivery?

Turn the review into a decision

Keep operational training and ownership due diligence separate but connected. Ask the instructor about the aircraft's current procedures and the provider about applicable component status, then include any verified work and training costs in the purchase cash plan.

Use the applicable documents

The Cirrus: SR Series technical publications suite helps identify the manufacturer's documentation or support route. Match the model, serial number, current equipment and approved changes with the provider; a publication library does not itself certify a candidate aircraft or quote its maintenance.

The FAA explanation of aircraft manuals distinguishes aircraft-specific approved information from general reference material. Retain the manual revision, applicable supplements, loading record and equipment list with the candidate's file so another reviewer can check the same configuration.

This page provides no emergency deployment altitude, speed, operating sequence, success rate or universal service deadline. Follow the applicable aircraft documents and qualified training.

For purchase planning, connect verified findings with the buyer checklist and ownership budget. Keep provider quotations separate from estimates and optional improvements.
